Joel Neilson - Musician Based in Alexandra, Central Otago
Growing up in a musical family, Joel was handed his first guitar at the age of five. He instantly became obsessed with guitar and all things music, and after being invited by Sir Dave Dobbyn to join him on stage to play during his 2005 tour, he got a life-changing glimpse into the world of a full-time musician that blew his little 11-year old mind. From then, he knew that he wanted music to be in the forefront of his life.
Spending hours over the years honing his craft, Joel draws inspiration from a range of musicians and genres - and is particularly drawn to artists like Tommy Emmanuel, Pink Floyd, John Mayer, Eric Clapton and John Frusciante - to name a few. Joel’s musical style today is an exciting blend of rock, pop, blues, indie and singer/songwriter. He loves the challenge of taking songs that people know and enjoy, and putting his own unique spin on them, utilising a loop pedal setup which allows him to deliver a full, big sound as a solo performer.
